The Comeback Kids

In the series opener, the reds rocked rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez for four runs in
three innings, and it looked as though, once again, the comeback kids would
shrug off a disappointing series with the Cardinals and resume their winning
ways.

Few experts picked the Reds to win the National League Central Division Championship. Loaded with great young talent, the team was expected to move up in the standings and maybe even to break its nine-year streak of losing seasons. But win the division? Hardly. No one realized the level of heart and tenacity this team possessed, the pluck and verve this team could summon in the face of adversity. The Reds came from behind to win 45 games, and whenever they took a tough loss, they bounced back the next game. They truly were “The Comeback Kids.” As baseball fans throughout the country waited for them slide back to expectations, they just kept hustling—and winning. The Reds led the league in many offensive categories, with a lineup anchored by budding superstar Joey Votto and aging veteran Scott Rolen. Though the pitching staff lacked a true ace, many pitchers contributed quality games. The bullpen did the same, until September, when heralded phenom Aroldis Chapman came up from the minor leagues and threw 100 mph fastballs, taking the staff to a whole new level. The Comeback Kids tells the remarkable story of the 2010 Reds, a team that relied on every player to achieve a stunning division championship. Featuring nearly 100 photos, this full-color book is the ultimate keepsake for every Reds fan, helping them remember a season, and a team, they never want to forget.

Say hello to another comeback kid, the osprey. The osprey, like the California brown pelican and the American bald eagle, was once the victim of the pesticide DDT that caused its shells to become brittle and break, interfering with the ospreys' reproductive cycles. That combined with humans removing dead trees in which ospreys nested because they needed leafless trees in which to nest and make a quick escape (because osprey wings easily got caught in dense foliage) resulted in the osprey being categorized in several states (in America) as endangered. Again, it is a case of us doing nothing proactive to reverse the course or fate of the osprey. All we had to do was provide habitat by not destroying it and stop using DDT! (Platforms on top of utility poles and not removing dead trees was a simple enough course of action. And use of DDT has been banned in the United States.) Now these fisher birds fly high in the skies and dive into the water for fish as they continue their comeback and prove anything is possible! A great book for kids, and a beautiful book for the coffee table, Bellissima Publishing, LLC has done it again with a book to educate, entertain and delight!

#1 New York Times bestseller Mike Lupica continues his tribute to the underdog in his Comeback Kids series for young middle-grade readers Nick Crandall feels like he doesn't belong anywhere. He never has felt like he belongs, really. He doesn't fit in this new family with his new foster parents, both of whom are professors. They don't know the first thing about sports, and he's not exactly a model student. It's only a matter of time until they realize he's not the right kid for them. And Nick certainly doesn't belong playing varsity baseball. He's only twelve years old! His teammates want a catcher their own age, not some kid. But Nick needs to prove something. He needs to prove that he belongs–to his parents, to his team, and to himself. Praise for the Comeback Kids: “Lupica portrays the action clearly and vividly, with a real sense of the excitement and unpredictable nature of the games. These are worthy additions to collections seeking to draw in middle-grade boys with an enthusiasm for athletics.” –School Library Journal “These should score big with middle-graders looking for alternatives to Matt Christopher's titles.” –Publisher’s Weekly “This title is a good choice for reluctant readers with a background in baseball.” –School Library Journal

THEIRS IS THE GENERATION THAT IS THE ENVY OF THE REST... Their lives are so colorfully adventurous, filled with wild parties and trips taken on a heart beat, a diverse culture from food menu to entertainment to heritage, in a world that is just that little bit bigger than most. They never have to worry about mortgages or the biological clock or any familial pressures. They are free to love with whom they choose, to form families with whom they wish, or stay single as there's just so much love around... But under every perfect story lies the perfect storm. They have normal people problems just like the rest of us. Crossroads come at them at every turn: career choices, marriages, deciding between staying in or moving on. It is only fortunate they have each other for all that, for council, for help, or just a shoulder to cry on. THEY ARE THE COMEBACK KIDS. AND THIS IS THEIR STORY.

This is the 4th book in the Comeback Kids Book Series, books written for kids, but beautiful enough to take a prominent place on your living room coffee table! And Penelope Dyan and John D. Weigand have done it again and created a wonderful book of photography and poetry that will engage everyone in the quest for the preservation of earth's species. The good part about all of this is that preservation is not based on anything anyone actively has to do. All we have to do is not interfere with nature, and not destroy world treasurers by hunting them to extinction, by destroying their natural habitats, and by polluting them to their deaths and possibly ours! After all, we are all a part of nature's life chain; and we were put upon the face of this earth to care for and nurture it and not to destroy it.
