Poet Sylvia Stern enjoys walking and observing the sky. The sun brightens her mood and makes her smile. But a few clouds and her imagination can work together to see things other people wouldn't see. She loves the stars and imagines jumping between them. All of nature in the sky or on the ground is fascinating to her. In her collection, Dancing with the Moon and the Stars, she shares her observations of the world. There are poems that take the reader on adventures with clouds-one of Stern's favorite topics. From the cold winter sky to the escapades of the fall leaves, her poems capture the magical essence of nature. Come along on an adventure that might have you tasting parts of the sky in one poem or blowing the biggest bubble with bubble gum in another. Dancing with the Moon and the Stars is a poetic journey that considers nature in a different light. A Wish for Wings Sometimes I wish I could be a butterfly and when the time is right to make a change, I could zip myself into my little sleeping bag, have a nice, long rest and when I awoke I would be a gorgeous bug with wings.

This study investigates the financial performance of awarded architectural design for buildings in Manhattan, New York.

This study investigates the financial performance of awarded architectural design for buildings in Manhattan, New York. Awarded design is based on the achievement of the architect and/or the architecture firm receiving prestigious awards from the industry such as the Pritzker prize, AIA Architecture Firm Award, the Architectural Innovation Award of the Wall Street Journal to name just a few. To measure financial performance, I use several datasets, Real Capital Analytics, Compstak, Walkscore and NYC public data for New York City. To identify awarded design and compare it to non-awarded design, I employ a matched-pair analysis. I find 846 building transactions with 89 awarded design transactions that are matched geographically to 757 non-awarded design transactions within a quarter mile radius over the 2000 to 2017 period. The results of the multivariate hedonic analysis suggest that, compared with buildings in the quarter-mile neighborhood, office buildings designed by awarded architects and awarded architecture firms have a statistically and economically significant transaction premium of 23.1 percent, ceteris paribus, with a model that explains just under 90 percent of the variation in transaction price. Results of this analysis are intended as way for designers to have agency in the design build development practice and for developers and investors to understand the value of engaging in awarded design effects.

Click here to listen to Julia Ericksen's interview about Dance with Me on Philadelphia NPR's "Radio Times" Rumba music starts and a floor full of dancers alternate clinging to one another and turning away. Rumba is an erotic dance, and the mood is hot and heavy; the women bend and hyperextend their legs as they twist and turn around their partners. Amateur and professional ballroom dancers alike compete in a highly gendered display of intimacy, romance and sexual passion. In Dance With Me, Julia Ericksen, a competitive ballroom dancer herself, takes the reader onto the competition floor and into the lights and the glamour of a world of tanned bodies and glittering attire, exploring the allure of this hyper-competitive, difficult, and often expensive activity. In a vivid ethnography accompanied by beautiful photographs of all levels of dancers, from the world's top competitors to social dancers, Ericksen examines the ways emotional labor is used to create intimacy between professional partners and between professionals and their students, illustrating how dancers purchase intimacy. She shows that, while at first glance, ballroom presents a highly gendered face with men leading and women following, dancing also transgresses gender.

"Five, six, seven, eight!" Defines the life of actress, dancer, choreographer, and director Miriam Nelson. Miriam's life reads like a 1930's musical. While still in her twenties, she appeared in six Broadway shows. On the day she moved to Los Angeles, Miriam ran into old friend Billy Daniels from New York who took her to lunch at Paramount. During lunch, Miriam ran into another New York friend, Paramount president Buddy de Sylva, who hired her on the spot for Lady in the Dark starring Ginger Rogers. Miriam has been dancing with the stars ever since! Nelson has tapped and chasséd with countless stars, including Julie Andrews, Ingrid Bergman, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, John Travolta and Billy Bob Thornton. Miriam was there for the opening day at Disneyland - Walt Disney hired her to choreograph dance numbers around the Park, including the famous Golden Horseshoe Revue. Miriam's career spans both the famous and infamous eras of stage, screen, and television. Encouraged by friends and family to recall her special "behind the scenes" moments, Miriam sorted through memories, scrapbooks and mountains of photographs to enable readers to share the excitement and anticipation, the joy and the sorrow that chronicled her extraordinary life. Fortunately, for those who love to dance and those who love to watch dance, Miriam Nelson remains an exciting part of the professional American dance scene. "You're a darling girl, Miriam, and I love you for all that you did. God bless you always, your dear friend," - Busby Berkley

One of the greatest all-around running backs in National Football League history, Walter Payton set several league records-including career rushing yards (16,726); most games rushing for 100 or more yards (77); and rushing touchdowns (110)-during his 13-year career with the Chicago Bears. Nicknamed "Sweetness" by his Jackson State University teammates because of his smooth running style and friendly disposition, Payton was a nine-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL MVP. In 1985, he rushed for more than 1,500 yards to help Chicago capture the most wins in franchise history, with a 15-1 regular season record. In the playoffs, the Bears outscored their opponents 101-10, including a dominating 46-10 victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX. Tragically, in February 1999, Payton was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. Less than six months later, he was dead, at the age of 45. Payton's legacy endures today through the charitable foundation that he and his wife, Connie, established in 1989. The Walter and Connie Payton Foundation has provided toys and school supplies to thousands of abused, neglected, and underprivileged children in Illinois.

When I was young, I knew God loved me. I followed Him. Being His child was natural and easy. Then I hit puberty, and my world changed. There were things I saw that I wanted, things that I thought He might not want me to have. I started to wander. Still, I was not stupid. I knew I still needed Him as Savior; it was His Lordship that gave me pause. Eventually I stripped Him of His Lordship and went to live in the "fallen world." I kept Him as my Savior, but I made no effort to follow Him. I loved my life in the fallen world. Still, it had its challenges. There were times I would find myself in the dreaded "Valley of the Shadow of Death." I knew somehow He was responsible. It was in the "Valley" that I would find myself needing Him. Eventually I would have to call on Him. And rescue me He would, but I refused anything but temporary rescue. I would be thankful for a few days, but the desire for my old life in the fallen world would soon reclaim me, and I would put Him back on the shelf. There was so much out there to grab for, and the fallen world did push and encourage me to go for happy. There was a problem with that: I was created to be filled with joy, His joy. "Happy" was just a temporary, dim simulation. I finally had to face the questions. Does He really love me? Is He really to be trusted? Is He really the God of the Bible? If the answer to these questions was yes, could I really have enough confidence in Him to make Him my center and follow Him?

Although Film Studies has successfully (re)turned attention to matters of style and interpretation, its sibling discipline has left the territory uncharted - until now. The question of how television operates on a stylistic level has been critically underexplored, despite being fundamental to our viewing experience. This significant new work redresses a vital gap in Television Studies by engaging with the stylistic dynamics of TV; exploring the aesthetic properties and values of both the medium and particular types of output (specific programmes); and raising important questions about the way we judge television as both cultural artifact and art form. Television Aesthetics and Style provides a unique and vital intervention in the field, raising key questions about television's artistic properties and possibilities. Through a series of case-studies by internationally renowned scholars, the collection takes a radical step forward in understanding TV's stylistic achievements.
