Stock up in time for the Lenten Season and Mercy Sunday on this beautiful leather-bound Deluxe Edition of the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul — the book that sparked the Divine Mercy movement with more than 800,000 copies sold to date. This special edition of the Diary, published in commemoration of the first World Apostolic Congress on Mercy, April 2-6, 2008 in Rome, Italy, is now available in soft burgundy or blue leather with gold foil, guilded edges and a ribbon marker. It is a book for every Catholic’s library — one that many will want to keep next to their Bible for constant insight and inspiration. The Diary is an amazing narrative that chronicles the experiences of a simple, uneducated Polish nun who received a special call shortly before the outbreak of World War II. The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us — all of us. And, He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. The Diary is truly a vehicle of grace for all who read it, for in reading it one can realize the truth that “mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to God’s mercy,” (Diary, 300).

"Daily Reflections on Divine Mercy" was written to provide an awakening to the abundant Mercy of God. It offers daily reflections and prayers to help deepen the day-to-day faith life of every Catholic so that you can understand the abundance of Mercy poured forth from the Heart of our Savior as it is revealed in the writings of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska. "Divine Mercy in My Soul: Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska" is soon to become a classic spiritual book that everyone is encouraged to read in their lifetime. However, many find this invitation intimidating, not just because of the width of her book, but because of the depth of its message on The Divine Mercy in each of Saint Faustina’s notebook entries. This book, "Daily Reflections on Divine Mercy," was written with the hope of guiding you through Saint Faustina’s Diary and her six notebooks of reflections. It can be used on its own to help you pause and reflect on the beauty of Jesus’ messages to her, or as a companion book, as you simultaneously read Saint Faustina’s Diary. "Daily Reflections on Divine Mercy" offers 365 daily teachings, reflections and prayers based upon the pages of Saint Faustina’s Diary. The structured way to use this daily reflection book is to do just that…reflect upon one page each day. However, some may feel called to skip around a bit, read a few reflections at a time, or return to a particular reflection through which God spoke to you. Therefore, though this book was written with the intent of providing one reflection for each day of the year, the best way to use it is any way you feel called and the way that benefits your relationship with God the most. The first paragraph for each day offers this author’s insights to the words and teachings of Saint Faustina. The section of her Diary used for the day’s teaching is marked so that the reader can also read her Diary first hand so as to see the primary source that the author of this book took inspiration from for that day’s reflection. Though the primary text of the Diary is never quoted, nor are the reflections of this book exact representations of the Diary, they do provide the foundational basis for the spiritual message shared in each reflection. The second paragraph for each day offers a short reflection put more as a question to the reader. It offers the same insight in a different format so as to enter more deeply into the message of the day. Finally, each daily reflection ends with a prayer focused upon the message and reflection for that day. The reader is encouraged to pray this prayer several times. Ideally, it is prayed first thing in the morning, again during the day, and again at night as an examination on how well the daily message was received. As you seek to survive the world we live in, allow these pages to be a font of Mercy for you from God. Allow God’s Divine Mercy to penetrate your heart so that you will know the abundance of His love and be more prepared to share that love with others.

This book is an exploration of how art—specifically paintings in the European manner—can be mobilized to make knowledge claims about the past. No type of human-made tangible thing makes more complex and bewildering demands in this respect than paintings. Ivan Gaskell argues that the search for pictorial meaning in paintings yields limited results and should be replaced by attempts to define the point of such things, which is cumulative and ever subject to change. He shows that while it is not possible to define what art is—other than being an open kind—it is possible to define what a painting is, as a species of drawing, regardless of whether that painting is an artwork or not at any given time. The book demonstrates that things can be artworks on some occasions but not necessarily on others, though it is easier for a thing to acquire artwork status than to lose it. That is, the movement of a thing into and out of the artworld is not symmetrical. All such considerations are properly matters not of ontology—what is and what is not an artwork—but of use; that is, how a thing might or might not function as an artwork under any given circumstances. These considerations necessarily affect the approach to paintings that at any given time might be able to function as an artwork or might not be able to function as such. Only by taking these factors into account can anyone make viable knowledge about the past. This lively discussion ranges over innumerable examples of paintings, from Rembrandt to Rothko, as well as plenty of far less familiar material from contemporary Catholic devotional works to the Chinese avant garde. Its aim is to enhance philosophical acuity in respect of the analysis of paintings, and to increase their amenability to philosophically satisfying historical use. Paintings and the Past is a must-read for all advanced students and scholars concerned with philosophy of art, aesthetics, historical method, and art history.

Saint Faustina is well known for the revelations of Divine Mercy that she received from Jesus and recorded in her Diary. But few know that she also received many revelations from the Blessed Virgin Mary and enjoyed a special relationship with her. Now, in Purest of All Lilies, a prominent Marian priest with a background in Mariology explores St. Faustina's rich relationship with Mary from her love of Mary growing up in Poland to the many Diary passages that she devoted to the Mother of God when she was a nun. The reader learns how St. Faustina's father would begin each day singing prayers to the Blessed Virgin and of the family's special May and October devotions to the Mother of God. At the early age of five, the future saint would tell her mother of dreams she had in which she walked hand-in-hand with the Blessed Virgin in a beautiful garden. Along with St. Faustina's early devotion to Mary, the author shows us how the Blessed Mother taught her as a nun important lessons about suffering, purity of heart and humility. Perhaps most fascinating of all, this Marian priest analyses the poems that St. Faustina wrote about Mary and the metaphors she used to describe the Blessed Virgin, including flowers such as the lily, the rose and the violet.

In Entering the Promised Land, first-time author Willie J. Alexander reveals how his spiritual upbringing, professional sports career, and business experiences all led him to ask new questions and draw new conclusions about several biblical and historical events. Drawn from his own experiences as an African-American businessman facing the limits of working with U.S. corporations and businesses, Alexander's Entering the Promised Land focuses on institutionalized economic hindrances that keep so many African-Americans in a seemingly endless underdog role. Alexander offers a detailed new approach to biblical history and reveals parallels between two epic struggles for survival and self-improvement: the children of Israel's escape from bondage in ancient Egypt during the days of Moses; and, the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Alexander also gives the reader a personal, poignant and emotional look at his upbringing in segregated Alabama during the 1950s and 1960s. In Entering the Promised Land, Willie makes an emphatic case urging African-Americans to rebuild the Civil Rights Movement by using the economic blueprint vividly articulated by Dr. King in the last speech of his life. This work results from years of research and revisions carried out through Willie's Defined Word Approach, which involves researching the definitions of certain biblical words and the origins of certain phrases.

(Foreword by Robert F. Morneau) Saints are an important part of our faith tradition, but just who are these holy men and women? Where are they from, what did they do, and what can they do for us? Meet the Saints offers you an introduction to some of the best-known and most beloved saints. This easy-to-read and inspiring book will help you meet saints who: influenced the church in radical ways, such as Ambrose and Teresa of Avila knew Jesus, such as Mary Magdalene and Martha and Mary of Bethany were contemplatives and mystics, such as Thérèse of Lisieux and Padre Pio died for their faith, such as Thomas Becket and Miguel Pro founded religious orders, such as Benedict of Nursia and Angela Merici shared deep friendships, such as Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal befriended the poor, such as Elizabeth and Martin of Tours lived in contemporary times, such as Katharine Drexel and Maria Faustina Kowalska
