Girl, Please...Know When to Let That Man Go encourages women to follow their intuition in letting go of relationships that feel odd, unsafe or have otherwise reached their expiration date. Intentionally funny and necessarily sobering, the 100 signs of letting go alert readers to problematic male behaviors that could result in major emotional upset or physical abuse. Through pop-culture references and personal experiences, laced with good-natured sarcasm, women learn that letting go of unsuitable men is not about abandoning their desires for love or intimacy, but about protecting their bodies, minds and spirits while honing their abilities to choose mates more wisely.

This book is about my life after I left my religious order and what I then did to support myself.. Going from life in an order with Papal Enclosure to the modern World was a horrendous ordeal. Living under Papal Enclosure meant leaving the Cloister only for educational purposes or other special occasions. such as hospital stays, etc. For instance when my Father died I was not allowed to go home or even participate in his funeral. I went from Master’s student to PhD student to actively looking for a job as a PhD. Having obtained a position with a major corporation it meant getting to know how to dress appropriately, mingle with ordinary people, discuss football, baseball and other topics which had been quite foreign to me. Then began the process of dating, being engaged, marrying and living a married life. Then widowhood, falling in love again, marrying again. In the process of working, then retiring and then obtaining another position, then moving to the North where I ran for election and won and with another person began the Small Business Development Center for NE Michigan. Then came Teaching college level classes and then widowhood a second time and moving back to the Detroit area. After that came more schooling (I became a Spiritual Director). Then Alaska where I worked after which I returned to the Lower 48 where I went back to school for a M Div. Then I received a unit of PET at Beaumont Hospital where I was an intern in Hospital Chaplaincy.

“Go, Girl, Go” is the story of the physical, mental, and spiritual challenges Carol faced in her loneliness and anguish following the death of her husband. But we cannot remain in the Valley of the Shadow of Death. This is an inspirational writing and a practical book of how to cope and handle the realities of daily living during the depths of grief when neither the body nor the mind are functioning normally. Carol’s inconsolable sorrow was born out of a loving marriage of faithfulness, forgiveness, joys and struggles. It is our desire that this book will provide help for others who are not sure “which way to turn” following the loss of their loved one: From the “how to” of finances to the various avenues of the healing process through which one becomes whole again. This small book is a delightfully hopeful and helpful writing from one woman’s heart to the hearts of so many others who have to learn to function in the world alone. Carol writes in the early months of grieving, I would sit down in a chair and stare into the nothingness that had enveloped my life. Who knows how many wasted minutes I sat, lonely and afraid, staring into the emptiness of the space that had been our home. The Holy Spirit began to speak gently to my heart and brought to my mind verses from the Bible that I had hid in my heart. The Bible instructs us to hide the Word in your heart. I might still be sitting and staring into nothingness were it not for the admonition of the Lord: ”What are you doing here, Elijah? GET UP AND GO, and STAND ON THE MOUNTAIN BEFORE THE LORD YOUR GOD.”

For 'ethnic minorities' in Britain, broadcast TV provides powerful representations of national and 'western' culture. In Southall - which has the largest population of 'South Asians' outside the Indian sub-continent - the VCR furnishes Hindi films, 'sacred soaps' such as the Mahabharata, and family videos of rites of passage, as well as mainstream American films. Television, Ethnicity and Cultural Change examines how TV and video are being used to recreate cultural traditions within the 'South Asian' diaspora, and how they are also catalysing cultural change in this local community. Marie Gillespie explores how young people negotiate between the parental and peer, local and global, national and international contexts and culturess which traverse their lives. Articulating their own preoccupations with television narratives, they both reaffirm and challenge parental traditions, formulating their own aspirations towards cultural change. Marie Gillespie's in-depth study offers an invaluable survey of how cultures are shaped and changed through people's recreative reception of the media.
