"The Plea" is a thrilling conclusion to Joe Kavinsky's role in capturing and bringing to justice a gang of drug smugglers terrorizing the Upper Midwest with drugs and death. Focusing on how drugs beget terrorism, the story features a pretty young Muslim woman who was the drug lord's companion planning terrorism at a giant shopping mall. She claims she's innocent and being denied a plea bargain promised by federal and local authorities by helping them capture the drug lord. However, her promise is ignored and she's locked up without charges and goes through a very complex hearing before a judge who is considered biased, despite Joe's efforts for fairness in her behalf. A "shady" lawyer is suspected of being paid off by the Taliban if she's deported back to them. But before the judge makes a decision, Kavinsky also becomes involved in the capture of another woman...the killer of Joe's police partner who also helped to round up the terrorists. All this poses the questions: How will the mistreated woman prisoner be judged? Who's the bad attorney? And who's the cop killer? The way this story unfolds...there are some very exciting and surprising answers!

Phil Vinci grew up in an underprivileged neighborhood of East Philadelphia, where crime and hopelessness seemed to be the controlling forces of everyday life. Fast money and the sense of belonging were the greatest temptations for a kid in those days. It seemed he was well on his way to following in the footsteps of his peers. However, something very significant occurred in his young life, which changed all that. Phil pulled away, managing to turn his life around. With great determination and conviction, he was able to get into law school. Circumstances led him to his first job as an Assistant District Attorney at the Pennsylvania State Attorney's office, where his mentor would give him every opportunity to shine. He seemed to find his calling, and the love of his life in Caroline Baxter, a pit-bull of a prosecutor. But, as fate would have it, his past catches up to him before too long. His old neighborhood friends, who had kept on that original path, come calling - pressuring him to help them out and tempting him with riches. He is torn between his old neighborhood loyalties, with the life of luxury his friends promise, and his devotion to his profession. As he tries to do the right thing, he soon discovers that everything is not always so black and white in his world. The young assistant D.A. struggles with these notions, trying desperately to balance the two; all the while falling deeper in love. All of it seems to be coming to a head and it may just cost him everything; including Baxter's love.

Your client is innocent. Your wife is guilty. Who would you fight for? * 'Quite simply, THE PLEA is one of the most purely entertaining books you'll read this year' John Connolly 'A gripping thriller' Ian Rankin * When David Child, a major client of a corrupt New York law firm, is arrested for murder, the FBI ask con artist-turned-lawyer Eddie Flynn to persuade him to testify against the firm. Eddie is not someone who is easily coerced, but when the FBI reveal that they have incriminating files on his wife, he knows he has no choice. But Eddie is convinced the man is innocent, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. With the FBI putting pressure on him to secure the deal, Eddie must find a way to prove his client's innocence. But the stakes are high - his wife is in danger. And not just from the FBI . . . * Praise for race-against-time legal thriller writer, Steve Cavanagh: 'A fantastic thriller writer' Mark Billingham 'Cavanagh stands head and shoulders above the competition, with his skilfully plotted, action-packed and big-hearted Eddie Flynn novels . . . highly intelligent, twist-laden and absolutely unputdownable' Eva Dolan, author of the critically acclaimed Tell No Tales 'What a thriller! Breathlessly brilliant and fiendishly clever' Miranda Dickinson 'A cleverly constructed legal thriller combined with a classic locked-room mystery. Eddie Flynn is fast becoming one of my favourite fictional heroes and Cavanagh one of my favourite thriller writers.' S.J.I. Holliday, author of Black Wood 'Raymond Chandler could have created Eddie Flynn. THE PLEA is Phillip Marlowe and Michael Connolly's Mickey Haller combined, with a bit of Jim Thompson's THE GRIFTERS thrown in. A superb read with a main character destined to be one of the most talked about in crime fiction.' Howard Linskey, author of The Search * If you like John Grisham, Lee Child and Michael Connelly, you will LOVE the gripping and twisty Eddie Flynn series: 1. The Defence 2. The Plea 3. The Liar 4. Thirteen * Each Eddie Flynn thriller can be read as a standalone or in series order *

The third edition contains thought-provoking problems, and is designed to encourage classroom discussion, and help students effectively learn criminal procedure principles. Ideally suited for a one-semester course, this casebook contains all the essential decisions without being overwritten or so massive as to be unwieldy. In addition, the new edition is completely up-to-date containing the latest decisions from the United States Supreme Court, as well as problems based on important lower court decisions. Criminal Procedure: Cases, Problems and Exercises is unique because the authors actively seek to place students in situations that they are likely to encounter in practice, and asks students to think about how they might handle those situations (e.g., what does a lawyer do when asked to represent a client at a lineup?). For this new edition, the authors have added a significant number of new problems. They have also added important cases from the United States Supreme Court's last three terms.
