The spectroscopy of highly charged ions plays a key role in numerous areas of physics, from quantum electrodynamics (QED) and parity nonconservation (PNC) testing to fusion and plasma physics to x-ray astronomy. Handbook for Highly Charged Ion Spectroscopic Research brings together many of the techniques and ideas needed to carry out state-of-the-art research in this field. The first part of the book presents techniques of light/ion sources, spectrometers, and detectors. It also covers coincidence techniques and examines how atomic properties change along an isoelectronic sequence. The second part focuses on atomic structure and applications. In addition, it discusses theoretical ideas, such as QED and PNC, that are significant in precise spectroscopic studies of highly charged ions. Extensive references are included at the end of each chapter. With the latest developments in fusion and x-ray astronomy research relying heavily on high-quality atomic data, the need for precise, up-to-date spectroscopic techniques is as vital now as it has ever been. This timely handbook explores how these spectroscopic methods for highly charged ions are used in various areas of physics.

'The confrontation with evil manifests as a battle taking place on many levels, the outcome of which lies in the hands of each one of us alive today. The most important requisite is the creating of a space within us in which a new consciousness, the Imagination, will gradually be able to arise. Much in the future depends on whether a sufficient number of people succeed in reaching this level of experience...' - Maria Betti With the world in turmoil, the greatest challenge facing us today, says Mario Betti, is the inner transformation of our entire being. This rebirth from within heralds a new form of consciousness - a creative imaginative faculty - that is simultaneously a reawakening of the mysterious Sophia, the feminine aspect of the Divinity. Imagination allows us to behold the spiritual forces actively at work in the world, resulting in the possibility of a comprehensive rebirth and renewal of culture.

Unauthorised (but authoritative) guide to the mysteries behind the phenomenal bestseller THE DA VINCI CODE Readers of Dan Brown's extraordinary bestseller THE DA VINCI CODE are fascinated by the questions raised in the novel. Was Jesus actually married to Mary Magdalene? Was she one of his disciples and did she write her own gospel? Did they have a child together? Did some geniuses of art and science, people like Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton, belong to secret societies that had the most compelling insider information in history, and did Leonardo convey some of these ideas in The Last Supper and other paintings? SECRETS OF THE CODE is the definitive guide to the novel and provides the curious reader with authoritative explorations into the major themes within THE DA VINCI CODE.

The Rebirth of the feminine surrounds us in many forms -- from the worldwide movement for women's rights to the resurgence of interest in the feminine spirituality of the Goddess and the Divine Mother. What is the spiritual meaning of this rebirth? What is the feminine divine? Who is she? She has had many names in many cultures: Ishtar in Babylon, Inanna in Sumeria, Athena, Hera, Demeter, and Persephone in Greece, Isis in Egypt, Durga, Kali, and Lakshmi in India. She is the Shekinah of the Kabbalists and the Sophia, or Divine Wisdom of the gnostics. For Rudolf Steiner, she is Anthroposophia, the Divine Wisdom who descended from the spiritual world and passed through humanity to become now the goal and archetype of human wisdom in the cosmos. This book contains most of Rudolf Steiner's statements on Sophia. We see him, as it were, "midwifing" the birth of the Sophia, the new Isis, divine feminine wisdom, in human hearts on earth. Each chapter explores the mystery of the different relationships of Sophia: Sophia and Isis, Sophia and the Holy Spirit, Sophia and Mary, the mother of Jesus (and Mary Magdalene), Sophia and the Gnostic Achamod, and Sophia and the New Isis. Above all, in a remarkable way, Steiner makes clear the relationship of Christ and Sophia: Isis-Sophia, Divine Wisdom, slain by Lucifer, Carried off on wings of world-wide forces into cosmic space, The Christ-Will working in us Will wrest Her from Lucifer And on vessels of spiritual knowledge Call Isis-Sophia, Divine wisdom, to new life in human souls.

Presented here are the Books of "The Sophia of Jesus Christ" (also called "The Wisdom of Jesus Christ") and "Eugnostos the Blessed" with extensive commentary on the ancient texts, Gnosticism, and the Divine Feminine. Gnosticism holds a special and unique place in the formation of Christianity. The theology presented by the Gnostics demands a balance of male and female "energies." In this book we will explore Gnosticism and the Divine Feminine through the lens of two great Gnostic texts. We will see the influence of Gnosticism and how their idea of the Divine Feminine effected orthodox or mainline Christianity. The treatise of "Eugnostos the Blessed" (50-150 A.D.) and the gospel called, "The Sophia of Jesus Christ," (50-200 A.D.) are presented together in a single volume, due to their close and undeniable connection. In fact, one borrowed heavily from the other. "The Sophia of Jesus Christ," also called "The Wisdom of Jesus Christ," seems to be a later and Christianized version of "Eugnostos the Blessed," a non-Christian Gnostic text. Gnosticism is complex and deserves explanation in order to better understand the texts. Extensive history, background and commentary are provided in order to reveal the inner working of Gnosticism, the place of women in their theology, and how Gnosticism influenced the Christianity of today.

Based on the author's experience of the suprasensory being behind spiritual science (Anthroposophy), this volume is the culmination of Sergei Prokofieff's twenty-five years of work on Rudolf Steiner's spiritual impulse. He shows that the being Anthroposophia is not merely a poetic image or an abstract concept, but an actual spiritual entity who works in the higher worlds to benefit earthly evolution and bring to humanity "the new revelation of the heavenly Sophia, the divine wisdom." In the first part of the book, Prokofieff describes the path that led him to experience the being Anthroposophia--a path that is clearly outlined so that it can be followed by the reader as well. In the second part, beginning with Steiner's relatively few statements on the subject, the author considers the position of the living Anthroposophia in the cosmic hierarchy--specifically her relationship to Christ, to the heavenly Sophia, and the to Archangel Michael. Finally available in paperback, this work will be of special interest to all those who have a close connection to Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophy. The Sophia Secrets A magical realism novel Writer Anne Demaree escapes an unhappy life in New Mexico when she moves to a bungalow by the sea in Southwest Harbor, Maine. With a sense of urgency, she escalates her elder years quest, a final search for meaning. Before she settles down in Maine, she and a friend take off on a two-week trip to a Kali Temple in India. Shaken to the core by her experience, Anne is determined to dig into the essence of this controversial Hindu deity. She must align with somebody or something as least as powerful as her uncontrollable anger, so she can heal. Anne neglects to take into account that you do not ask for Kali's help without accepting the consequences. Kali is, after all, the goddess of transformation. One stormy morning on a trail by the sea, Anne stumbles upon a mysterious old woman who tells Anne she must follow her, because Anne is running out of time. Is the old woman real? Anne asks around, but no one has heard of her. Nevertheless, the old woman keeps showing up in the most unusual places and times, telling poignant stories, delivering exotic experiences, and sometimes with accompanying visions of goddesses. Meanwhile, Anne has found a tender love interest in Adam Waterfield, a retired philosophy professor and Cranberry Island native. A crisis with Adam's drug-troubled grandson soon finds Anne at dead center of the turmoil. Falling in love and helping a teen boy were not part of Anne's plan. Will these two throw her completely off track or be somehow vital to her elder journey? "I didn't want it to end." -- Rosalie Kell, Graphic Artist

This conference was attended by leading experts in the field of gamma-ray astronomy as well as students and postdocs from around the world. The symposium concerned the basic observational and theoretical topics and the objectives of the rapidly developing field of gamma-ray astronomy in the energy range above 10 GeV, with emphasis on the connections between physics at GeV and TeV energies by which the most violent processes in the universe manifest themselves. The topics ranged from particle acceleration in different astrophysical environments, the origin of cosmic rays, and the relativistic astrophysics of jets and winds from compact galactic objects and active galactic nuclei, to observational cosmology. They comprised almost all known and expected gamma-ray populations and their contributions to the non-thermal inventory of the Universe. The symposium was primarily concerned with the scientific aspects of the field and less with the development of instrumentation.
