This unique collection of poems from the Poet Laureate, filled with her characteristic wit, is a feminist classic and a modern take on age-old mythology. Who? Him. The Husband. Hero. Hunk. The Boy Next Door. The Paramour. The Je t'adore. Behind every famous man is a great woman - and from the quick-tongued Mrs Darwin to the lascivious Frau Freud, from the adoring Queen Kong to the long-suffering wife of the Devil himself, each one steps from her counterpart's shadow to tell her side of the story in this irresistible collection. Original, subversive, full of imagination and quicksilver wit, The World's Wife is Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy at her beguiling best.

Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2+, University of Wuppertal, 3 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: “Salome” is a poem written by Carol Ann Duffy and can be found in the compilation of The World’s Wife written in 1999. It is a thematic book, where each poem is the voice of an hypothetical wife of a great man of history or mythology. The poem Salome consists of four stanzas. The first stanza has 14 lines; the second and third stanza have nine lines, and the last one has four lines. The register of the poem is intimate and addressed to a large number of readers. In terms of style, we will find in this poem black humour especially because of the smash of rhymes, as for instant: “lighter, laughter, flatter, pewter, Peter.” The poems’ persona is called Salome who we find immediately in the title. A hasty and knowledgeable reader will easily connect the character of this poem with a historical and biblical woman named Salome. The myth of a dancer (Salome) has been told in various different ways. It (the poem) became known in different adaptations as in literature, television, cinema and theatre. The history of the biblical Salome is very well known among the religious, but it seems to me important to refer briefly about it on the next page. In the following paper I will first of all, talk about the author Carol Ann Duffy as a person and a writer, because the education that she received could be an interesting clue to her poem “Salome”. Then, I will proceed with an interpretation or analysis of this poem Salome in a historical way, but also in a modern way. I mean, I will always connect this poem with the real, biblical, story. That is because, in my opinion, the persona can simultaneously be a modern fictional woman from nowadays, or the historical (but also fictional) woman. In other words, in my point of view, the poem relies on double meanings, therefore two different interpretations.

The Billionaire s Unexpected Wife 2

I had lain there in bed with her and been so sure, so utterly convinced, that I was
in love with her, and the world had seemed a whole lot brighter as I focused on
that, on what we could build together as soon as I got up the nerve to tell her.

When I woke up next to a beautiful woman in Vegas, I saw an opportunity. A business opportunity. She pretends to be my wife for a year, and I get my family to keep their mouths shut about settling down. And she gets a payday that changes her life. Lucky girl. But I didn’t count on what came next. She’s different than anyone I’ve ever met. Unmaterialistic. Not spoiled. And there’s a kindness to her I’ve never seen before. Not to mention, the woman is sexy as hell. Pretending to be her loving husband in public is starting to blur lines in private. But I don’t believe in love. My past reminds me that it doesn’t exist. Only problem is, I was wrong. Amaya does believe in love. And hell, maybe I’m starting to as well. But it’s never that easy. This is book 2 of a trilogy. You will have to purchase book 1 and 3 to finish the story.

This is a companion to The Creative Writing Handbook - now in its second edition. It is very much aimed at the individual writer, based on the idea that real writing comes from within and that writing is a craft, skill with determination, art with attitude. The book is filled with useful ideas and inspiring techniques for exploring and exploiting resources available, both within and without. It focuses on three major areas - the writer's roots (family, class and gender), the writer's resources (memory and language) and the writer's art (form and technique). Chapters focus on many topics, including how memory shapes a writer's material, the pro-creative force of words and the ambiguities of art and artfulness. Many examples of established writers' works are cited to give the fledgling writer much practical help.
